The Ghost and the Weirdest Day Ever

I promise I am going to talk about some interesting things here. I will talk about shows and the band and being on the road. But before that, I have to tell you about the weirdest day ever. OK, so maybe not ever, but definitely one of the weirder days of 2026 thus far.

If you looked at the calendar for this week, you’d see that Monday and Tuesday we were in Nashville rehearsing, then Wednesday we were rehearsing in Columbia, MO. Because Columbia is one of those “you can’t get there from here” kinds of places, it made more sense to ride the bus instead of flying. So I figured Wednesday would be spent rehearsing and dialing everything in for Thursday. While the dialing in thing happened, the rehearsing did not.

So I ended up hanging at the venue for a while, then going back to the hotel. Took a long nap since I slept horribly on the bus last night (more on that below). Got up and started getting ready, then found out others were going to eat dinner, but I decided against it. Read a few pages of Something Wicked This Way Comes. Great creepy autumn read, btw, if you’re looking for something like that.  Then Mac texted. Come to find out, he had stayed back at the hotel too. We ended up hanging out down by the pool. Since we’ve only seen each other a couple of times since the spring, there was a lot to catch up on.

So what was weird about it? I anticipated the busiest day of the year, and ended up with a lot of sitting around doing nothing. That is pretty much road life in a nutshell.

Oh I also have to tell you about The Ghost. That was the nickname given to the white bus we had to begin this tour. And it was a very, um, fitting, name. You would hit a button to open a door, and it wouldn’t work. We asked the driver about it and his answer was “Yeah, you got to work it sometimes.” Last night Mac got up in the middle of the night and went to the front lounge. When he went to go back, the door to the bunks wouldn’t open. He sat there for a couple of minutes trying to figure out what to do, and then the door mysteriously opened all by itself.

The bus made all kinds of weird noises while we were driving. Maybe it was the brakes or something with the gears, who knows. The bus company sent out a mechanic and it was deemed  “out of service.”  Another bus is on the way. Ghost, thank you for your service. At least it makes for a great story.
