(This is the first in a 25 day Advent devotional I’m doing. I hope you’ll join me for the rest!)
“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” ~ Luke 2:10
A lone horseman rode into town under cover of night. He was on a mission. The fate of the movement stood on the edge of a knife. He had to get the message to the others or the revolution would be over before it even started. He soon found what he was looking for: another rider. The horseman could hardly contain his excitement as he whispered four words that would change the course of history:
“The British are coming.”
The second rider took the message to another rider, who then told another. In a very short period of time, the word was out, and a revolution was born.
As we enter the season of Advent, God has a message for us. This message is way more bold, way more life-changing, and way more revolutionary than Paul Revere’s.
No matter how tired, run down, worn out, broken-hearted, or jaded you might be about the prospect of another Christmas around the corner, these three words are for you.
Jesus is coming.
Let them linger in your heart during this busy holiday season. Share them with your friends. Remember that this is what all the fuss is about. This is what we celebrate. This is the Good News.
Jesus is coming.
Over the next 25 days, I’m going to share a short devotion every day. It’s short enough that you can read it in just a minute or two, but I pray it brings you a little bit of encouragement wherever you are. I hope it serves as a little reminder that the Christmas season is a time for anticipating the greatest, most mysterious gift of all: God in human form.
And just like Paul Revere and the other riders, make sure to get the word out. Make sure everyone gets the message.
Jesus is coming!
