“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” ~ Isaiah 9:6
One of my favorite Christmas songs is “Let There Be Peace on Earth”. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. I love the thought. Doesn’t it seem like if everybody just tried to be peaceful that it would spread out and start a movement and peace on earth would ensue?
If there’s one thing i hope you have picked up on if you’ve read these devotions, it’s this: hope, love, joy, and peace do not come about through human striving. We cannot will these things and make them so. Peace is a virtue, and we cannot be virtuous on our own. No one is righteous. Not one.
At Christmas we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace. Think about that for a second. A prince is someone who rules over the land. The territory he rules over is the hearts of those who accept him. We will never see peace unless we give Jesus his proper place as ruler over our hearts.
Let there be peace on earth. But let it not begin with you or me. Let it begin with the Prince of Peace who has come to save the world.
